Bruce Gittings is a geospatial scientist at the University of Edinburgh, with strong interests in spatial database management and the presentation of locational information on the web. He is editor of the Gazetteer for Scotland – the biggest contemporary description of Scotland on the Web and used by the Scottish Government to provide a definitive list of place names.
Bruce is also Chair of the Association for Geographical Information in Scotland and a former Vice Chair of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society. Bruce is a regular public speaker on geographical topics.

  The UK’s first Geospatial Strategy, published last year, described the opportunity to harness the potential of location data to drive our future economic recovery and growth. From local infrastructure to net zero, public health to transport, nearly every part of the public sector will have a role to play.
  
  This session will look at the immediate opportunities for public bodies to exploit the data that they curate, and to make it accessible for innovation.
