Generelt om grundlaget for komorbiditet ved parodontitis (mekanismer og confounding)
Increasing interest in the oral-systemic link has provided us with a number of studies indicating an independent association between periodontitis and a number of systemic diseases (including diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis etc). However, the cause-effect mechanisms still lack evidence. All these diseases seem to have a common pathway involving inflammatory reactions allowing for an association between different diseases. This presentation will discuss what is yet known and what is currently more wishful dreams regarding the oral-systemic link.
