In 2029 Germany and Denmark will be connected by the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link. The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel will increase traffic and ease relations between Denmark and Germany, during construction already but especially once the tunnel will be finished.

A close cooperation and an integrated labour market have been existing in the Danish-German border region between Southern Jutland and Schleswig for many years, where cross border commuters have been moving across the border.

The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link will during the years to come provide opportunities for the same in Eastern Denmark. Therefore the Region Sjælland and Region Sønderjylland Schleswig are cooperating to enhance the cross border commuter consultation for employees, employers and organizations in the Fehmarnbelt Region.
The consultation service bases on many years of experience in the Danish-German border region.

Since 2004 the cross border commuter consultation service helped 55.000 citizens or companies in the area and has taken part in the solution of jurisdictional challenges with living or working across the border.

The consultation can help with questions concerning taxation, sickness benefits, social security, moving and family benefits. The consultation itself can be done by phone, in writing or personal meeting. There will further be arranged information activities determined to citizens and companies.

The activities are financed by Region Sjælland’s regional development fund.
