    Post Doc, KU SUND

Michela Gambino is a post-doctoral researcher in the PHAGEbio group, Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Previously educated as an artwork conservator and as a microbiologist in Italy, she is interested in how microbial and viral communities interact and evolve. In the last three years, she has been working with bacteriophages, viruses that specifically infect bacteria. She is investigating the impact of bacteriophages on microbial communities and their use as an alternative to antimicrobials to target pathogens such as Salmonella or Enterotoxigenic E.coli.

    • 15:30 - 16:10 Bacteriophages. A new hope
Bacteriophages are the natural predators of bacteria. They specifically recognize, infect and kill bacteria. Their efficiency, specificity and versatility make bacteriophages a concrete alternative to antimicrobials against human and animal pathogens, including foodborne pathogens and porcine enterotoxigenic E.coli.
