    Jo has worked in the veterinary industry since 2007 and has always had a special interest in rabbits. She owns and runs LagoLearn, providing rabbit specific CPD to veterinary professionals in both the UK and internationally. She also spends a significant amount of voluntary time working with charities and parliamentary groups to highlight animal welfare and is proud to be Junior Vice President of the British Veterinary Nurse Association. Jo attends many events, gives lectures and writes articles for the veterinary industry as well as the general public.  She has received several awards over the years including the BVNA / Blue Cross Veterinary Nurse of the Year in 2014, an RCVS Innovation Award winner in 2017 and the IFAW Animal Advocate Award in 2017.

    • 09:00 - 09:40 Holistic Health - understanding the importance of correct husbandry
      The lecture starts with an indepth look at the importance of life stage appropriate nutrition and what constitutes a good quality, balanced diet. It will then discuss different types of enclosures and the detrimental effects that can happen if the housing is substandard. Rabbit behaviour will also be covered including an overview of bonding.
      09:50 - 10:30 Rabbit Anaesthesia and Airway Management
      A re cap of anatomy & physiology will allow delegates to understand how rabbits are different to cats and dogs and why anaesthesia needs to be specifically tailored for this species. Stress reduction both at home and in clinic will be explored and the potential benefits discussed. It will also cover the pros and cons of the most commonly used airway management techniques including face masks, endotracheal tubes and supraglottic airway devices as well as looking at a range of monitoring methods.
      11:10 - 11:50 Multi Modal Analgesia - rabbit specific advice
      Analgesia needs to be considered at the pre, peri and post op periods and pain assessments should be carried out routinely. This lecture will discuss how to identify and rectify pain in rabbits as well as look at the most commonly used drugs. Alternative analgesia methods will also be covered including distraction techniques, acupuncture, laser, physio and environmental adaptations.
      13:10 - 13:50 Common Conditions - including an overview of stasis, urinary, dental & mobility issues
      This lecture aims to give an overview of the main issues that your clients may present for. Each condition will be explained in further detail including symptoms, diagnostics, treatment and prevention.
      14:00 - 14:40 Be A Better Rabbit Nurse - top tips including handling, medicating, quality of life scoring and more!
      Many topics will be discussed here starting with practice set up and protocols and leading on to safe handling and suitable enclosures within the clinic. We will discuss the best methods for administering a range of medicine options as well as learning how and why it is so important to spend time teaching the owner how to continue the care at home, including syringe feeding techniques.
      15:20 - 16:00 An Overview Of Infectious Diseases - including prevention, treatment and biosecurity.
      This presentation will discuss Myxomatosis and Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (RVHD strain 1 and 2) including the epidemiology and prevalence of these conditions and why it is so important to be aware of them. The transmission, clinical signs and diagnostics will be covered as well as touching on some treatment options and prevention options including vaccinations and biosecurity.
