Keynote: Tech Solutions for the Energy Transition
Our science and technology competences are very important to realize the energy transition. Many of the solutions that we will develop are highly cross disciplinary. We therefore need to utilize our deep competence in some elements with our basic competence in others. We must accept that systems thinking and system integration are equally important to master as individual elements. We must be able to understand and optimize the whole value chain. To succeed we must also be curious and be comfortable with out-of-the-box thinking.
A few technology example solutions are presented ranging from superconducting power cables, floating offshore wind energy structures, CCS value chains, floating solar systems, subsea mining of rare minerals, and to small scale modular nuclear reactors for maritime use.
For each example the role in the energy transition is described both in terms of opening new opportunities in an industrial system perspective, associated environmental impacts and challenges, and the greenhouse gas emission reduction potential.
