Gordon Ballard

Gordon Ballard is Executive Director of the International Association of Oil & Gas producers (IOGP) on 15 January, 2016.

He spent the previous 30 years working with Schlumberger where, after assignments that took him to four continents, he became the Company’s UK Chair in 2005.

Gordon has also served as Chair of the UK’s Oil and Gas Industry Council and of OPITO International, the upstream oil & gas skills organization. He was Co-Chair of Oil & Gas UK.

He graduated from the University of Glasgow with a B.SC. Hons in Civil Engineering and holds a Masters in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University.

  For over 40 years, IOGP has brought the upstream industry together to help identify and implement good practices in safety, health and environment. That is still our remit. Increasingly, however, we have become involved in other issues such as corporate social responsibility and sustainability. Today, while we maintain the industry’s momentum on HSE improvements, IOGP is also helping to raise awareness of the importance of oil and gas in fuelling the world’s prosperity – and extending the benefits of that prosperity to the billions of people in developing nations for whom readily available, affordable energy remains an aspiration.
