Jan Willem came on board as the new CEO for Seaway Heavy Lifting in January 2013 when the company had just launched their Incident and Injury Free (IIF) journey a few months ago. He used this new safety approach not only to address and solve safety issues but also to create a new culture and work environment within SHL. Although there was not a lot of resistance to endeavour on an IIF journey in the first place it still took a strong personal stand and leadership to get the whole organisation believe in this approach. Top and middle management had to become IIF champions to provide safety leadership to the whole organisation – onshore and offshore.  The company trained all of their employees and many subcontractors to develop a new safety attitude, to build a strong and authentic commitment to safety, to create an incident and injury free environment and what it takes to make this happen under all circumstances. Seaway Heavy Lifting is now producing best-in-class results not only within safety, and have created a new safety culture within their organisation.
