    Professor Henrik Kehlet is a gastrointestinal surgeon and former professor of surgery, Copenhagen University and is now professor of perioperative therapy and Head of Section of Surgical Pathophysiology, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University. He has published more than 1,100 articles, predominantly within the topics of surgical pathophysiology, acute pain physiology and treatment, the surgical stress response, regional anaesthesia, postoperative fatigue, postoperative immunofunction, fluid management, cognitive function and perioperative morbidity. The research results have been condensed into the concept of “Fast-track surgery”, which is undergoing implementation worldwide.
