Pieter Tanis finished Medical School in 1998. He defended his thesis ‘Methodology and implications of lymphatic mapping and sentinel lymphadenectomy’ at the University of Amsterdam in 2002. After his surgical training and fellowship in surgical oncology, he started as a consultant surgeon in 2010. He was appointed as full professor of Colorectal Surgery at the University of Amsterdam in 2019.
His two main topics in clinical care and research are colorectal cancer and prevention and treatment of complications. He has published over 240 articles in peer reviewed journals and is principle investigator of the multicenter randomized BIOPEX trials on pelvic floor reconstruction after APR, and COLOPEC trials on prophylactic HIPEC and early detection of peritoneal recurrence in T4 colon cancer. Furthermore, he is part of the steering committee of the TESAR trial on rectal preserving treatment, CAIRO6 trial on perioperative systemic therapy in patients undergoing CRS+HIPEC, and IMARI trial on anastomotic leakage.Speaker for following sessions
