    Donal Buggy is UCD Full Professor of Anaesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine and Consultant in Anaesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine in Mater Misericordiae University Hospital since 2001. He took up the part-time post of UCD Full Professor of Anaesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine in November 2012, having been appointed Professor on the Adjunct Clinical Faculty since 2008. Our unit is at the forefront of worldwide research on how perioperative factors such as anaesthesia and analgesia might influence cancer recurrence and metastasis. Other research interests include perioperative interventions and postoperative outcomes, especially after hip fracture and myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery (MINS). He also has a research profile in regional anaesthesia, acute pain and thermoregulation. He is Editorial Board Member of British Journal of Anaesthesia (BJA) since 2008, and in 2013 edited a Special Issue on Anaesthesia and Cancer, online access, which has helped propel BJA to the No.1 ranked journal in the specialty. Donal is a European Society Anaesthesiology Research Committee Member 2015-present, and former member of Pharmacology Subcommittee (2010-2013). He is elected to Council of College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland since 2014, former Chair of the Innovation-Research-Audit committee and now Chairman of the Congress and CEPD Committee (2015-present). He has received peer-reviewed research grant funding from multiple sources, including EU COST Action CA15204 "EURO-Periscope": European Platform for Investigation of Perioperative Interventions in Surgery for Cancer". He is a member of Translational Oncology group within UCD. H-index 36 (Scopus) 46 (Google Scholar), June 2018), He has >130 PubMed cited publications, rising to >230 including published abstracts at international congress, book chapters and academic correspondence. He is a member of Clinical Trials Ireland. His global research collaborations include Outcomes Research, Cleveland Clinic, OH, USA; Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthesiologists and NHMRC, and European Society Anaesthesiology Clinical Trials Network.
