    Clinical Psychologist and Research Fellow

Dr Mar Rus-Calafell is a research clinical psychologist and postdoctoral researcher at the Oxford-Cognitive Approaches to Psychosis group, Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford, and a visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (KCL, London). She was the Research Coordinator of the WELLCOME TRUST funded randomized controlled trial of AVATAR therapy (computer based technology for auditory hallucinations) and  she is currently working on the SlowMo Trial (digital therapy for paranoia). Her research focus through her clinical and research career is the understanding and treatment of psychosis and the application of digital interventions, specifically Virtual Reality. SlowMo is a multi-centre randomised controlled trial (London, Oxford and Sussex) funded by the NIHR EME programme, evaluating the clinical effectiveness and mechanisms of action of an innovative digital therapy (SlowMo) for persecutory delusions. SlowMo targets thinking habits which are known to contribute to paranoia, and works by supporting people to slow down for a moment to reduce fast thinking and the subsequent impact of paranoia en their lives. SlowMo is also one of the first digital psychological therapies designed specifically for severe mental health problems, and addresses challenges to engagement and adherence by providing an easy to use enjoyable interface.
