    • 09:15 - 09:45 The great CCS perspectives for Denmark and the EU
According to the UN's climate panel, the world community must reduce total emissions by approximately 50% by 2030 to keep warming to 1.5 degrees. This makes it necessary to reduce CO2 emissions by several hundred million tons in 2030, 2045, and 2050. The Danish politicians decided with the climate act in 2020 that CCS is crucial for Denmark to achieve these climate goals. And the European Commission also considers CO2 capture and storage to be a very important step on the way to a CO2-neutral Europe.

Denmark has a unique opportunity to become a hub for CO2 storage in Europe. The country is geographically well placed with large industrial emitters in countries such as Germany, Poland, and Sweden, and the Danish underground is highly suitable for storing high quantities of CO2. In the offshore industry, we expect to be able to store min. 13. million tons per year from 2030.

To achieve this, and build a large-scale CCS business, we must create the right framework at a European level. With the great potential for CCS on a large scale in Denmark, an internal market must be established. Industry and research are ready.
