    Bio: 

    Mikkel Thorup is professor at the University of Copenhagen heading the Center for Basic Algorithms Research Copenhagen (BARC). Mikkel's main work is in algorithms and data structures. Recently his has focused on hash functions unifying theory and practice. He has received a large no. of academic awards, i.a. ACM Fellow and, most recently, co-winner of the 2021 Fulkerson Prize

    Algorithms can dramatically increase efficiency and save energy and resources  

    Abstract of presentation: 

    In this talk, I will introduce you briefly to the theory of algorithms and show examples of industrial use and applications, e.g. how it is possible to increase the efficiency of a streaming service, and the potential for reducing the energy consumption of computer servers.
