The negative effects of poorly designed, unethical, and unsustainable digitalization on society, environment, and individual are undeniable. Examples range from Facebook’s manipulation of democratic elections and the dismantling of labour institutions in the gig-economy to racist and sexist AI and digital, just-in-time supply chains spreading virus infections to become global pandemics. What are the deeper issues with digitalization for which these examples are mere symptoms? And what can be done to ensure that digitalization results in a tenable future? These fundamental questions of responsible digitalization will be debated by a panel of leading experts.
