    Associate Professor, AU

    Bio:

Bas Spitters is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Aarhus University. He has a PhD from Nijmegen (2003) and has held visiting positions at IAS Princeton, CMU and Chalmers.

His group within the CoBRA center (http://cs.au.dk/research/centers/concordium/) focuses on formal verification, smart contracts and high assurance cryptography, especially in the context of blockchains.

    Title of presentation:

    Security challenges in decentralized finance

    Abstract of presentation:

I will give a brief overview of decentralized finance (deFi), an exciting space that uses blockchains and smart contracts to avoid intermediaries. Unfortunately, too many accidents happen in deFi (costing 10s of millions of euros). Improved quality control, standardization and regulation can help to solve some of these issues.

While blockchains are still a relatively new technology we see a new digital security infrastructure being designed with potentially deep impact on our society. It poses huge possibilities for better transparency, but remains a potential challenge to our economic institutions, digital interaction and sharing of information. This session introduces the basic building blocks of the blockchain technology, and explores future applications of Cybersecurity issues based on new research within blockchain, Smart Contracts and related technologies.
