Towards Efficient Manufacturing- Awareness of Manufacturers and Customers Cutting machine tools contribute to 1 to 3% or 230 to 700 TWh of the global electrical energy consumption in 2018 (equivalent to Germany’s total electrical energy demand in 2016). In addition, according to Regulation (EU) No. 543/2013, the energy consumption by small and large actors is towards more transparency which in this case highlights the importance of energy consumption data and energy analysis of the cutting machine tools (in the first phase for small scale productions and in the final phase will be the large participants of the machinery industry). For these very reasons, and to emphasize the importance of going green and towards sustainability, machine tools are considered as a sensible starting point for energy efficiency. Therefore, bringing awareness of the energy consumption to machine industries as well as the customers is the first step towards efficient manufacturing and sustainability. This awareness in manufacturing will be introduced: 1) to the customer by preparing an energy analysis of the produced workpiece and 2) an energy database of machine tools with different sizes will be created and provided for the manufacturing companies that want to optimize the energy of their machines.
