    Harry is Senior Lecturer and Head of Equine Medicine at Leahurst Equine Hospital, University of Liverpool. After graduating in 2000, he spent his first 5 years working in first opinion mixed and equine ambulatory practice. This was followed by an extended overseas trip of 6 years to New Zealand, where he worked at Massey University and became a diplomate of the ACVIM. On returning to the UK in 2011 he spent 2 years in private practice, before taking a job at Liverpool as lecturer in equine internal medicine. He enjoys all areas of equine medicine but has particular clinical and research interests in endocrinology and gastroenterology.

      Blood tests are commonly used in equine practice, and most of us will receive some sort of blood result to interpret every day. In this session we will consider how to optimise the value of these results for our patients.

      When we see anaemia on a blood result how do we go about determining the underlying cause? Is it iron deficiency or something else? In this session we will look at the investigation of anaemia and iron status, and their management.

      Several liver enzymes are included on biochemistry panels, and we often encounter increased liver enzymes as an incidental finding. How do we determine the significance of these results and investigate them further?

      Peritoneal and pleural fluid sampling can be indicated in a wide range of medical cases. In this session we will look at tips on obtaining a diagnostic sample, and how to use it.
